First Day at Work

So I survived my first two days at work and all went well. I'm on the honeymood period right now, so everyone loves me. People see me as the "savior" who is going to fix all of the problems. As Ron Burgandy would say, "I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal around here. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany."

We'll see how long I can keep up this act once the honeymoon period ends. But, overall work is great. I have a HUGE office that I don't know what to do with. It's so big I'm thinking of taking out one of the tables and putting in a Nerf basketball court. I literally have a 8' x 20' lane that would be perfect for hoops.

There is a full library on site with all of the latest US periodicals (and even music). So between that, the Internet, and Slingbox, I should be fully informaed of all the news around the world and at home. We have have a cafeteria, deli and a full-time doctor on staff that can write prescriptions. I barely need to leave the office.... but, fortunately, this is Europe we're talking about here. Work days after 6:00 PM will be few and far between.

UPDATE:There are two things I forgot to mention in my previous post. First, I have a full time secretary that is assigned to me and only me. I always joked that I needed an admin but, now that I have one, I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to use her for (she's 53 years old, so stop thinking like that). The second point is that I have a laser printer that is in my office and I don't have to leave my chair to grab the paper. I cannot understate how awesome this is. I print things that I have no right printing. For example, I printed an article today because I didn't like the background color online and would rather read it on paper. F*** the environment - I haven't owned a car in 8 years so I can print as much as I damn well please.

I am in Prague

I finally made it to Prague. The flight from JFK was a piece of cake (I had 4 seats to myself and was able to sleep the whole way). I found my way to the corporate apartment OK and it looks pretty nice. it will do R and I just fine for a few months. There is only one problem... we dont have internet access.

I am now at an Internet cafe with a messed up keyboard. The y is switched with the z and I cant get any special characters to work. if I want to put in an apostrophe, i have to go to another web page, find an apostrophe, copy it and paste it into my document. Way too much work. The only thing I figured out is that I can get the @ sign by hitting ALT + 6 + 4.

There is a bit of a snow storm here right now. It is nice to see after the warm weather we have had in New York this year.

I am off to get some lunch. I will send pictures of the new apartment as soon as I can get online.

My Last Day in New York

Today's my last day in New York. I have a flight that leaves JFK at 5:45 PM and arrives in Prague tomorrow at 7:55 AM. (There is a 6 hour time difference between the two cities)

I am all packed and everything is ready to go. All I have left to do is get a hair cut and have lunch with R. R is going to stay in New York for another 3 weeks to wrap things up with her job and our apartment.

See you on the other side of the pond....

Renting out our apartment

Before we move to Prague, one of the biggest hurdles we have to get over is renting out our apartment. We had a real estate agent over last week and she thinks we'll be able to rent it without much problem at all. The good news is that - if we rent it for the going rate - we'll be able to pay for our mortgage, taxes and maintenance without having to dip into our pocket.

If you know anyone who is in the market for a rental, check out the real estate listing.
